Dog killed after lunging at Sacramento County deputy during sheriff’s call in Foothill Farms

Police tape at crime scene

A Sacramento County deputy shot and killed a dog while responding to a call for service Wednesday night.

The deputy was responding to a call reporting a family disturbance in the 5900 block of Jeanine Drive in Foothill Farms. When the caller opened the door, “a large dog aggressively charged at the deputy.” the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office said.

“Fearing for his safety, the deputy shot the dog one time,” the Sheriff’s Office said.

The dog later died from its injuries.

The incident is under investigation, the Sheriff’s Office said, but no further details were available Thursday.
