Person pulled from American River but listed in critical condition, fire officials say

A person was in critical condition Sunday after being rescued from a section of the American River near Rancho Cordova, according to the Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District.

The person, who was not identified, was pulled out of the river and taken to a nearby ambulance by park rangers and Metro Fire boat crews.

Capt. Parker Wilbourn said the person was drowning at the time of the rescue. They were not wearing a life jacket.
