One firefighter injured, taken to hospital, after 5-acre wildfire in Folsom
More than 50 firefighters responded to a large grass fire Monday near Highway 50 in Folsom.
Firefighters responded to a two-acre fire near Prairie City Road. By the time units arrived on scene, the fire had already spread to Iron Point Road, burning a wooded area immediately off the freeway and threatening a solar panel complex adjacent to Intel’s campus.
“Warm weather and uneven terrain hampered firefighting efforts,” the Folsom Fire Department said in a news release.
Additional engines from El Dorado Hills Fire Department, Cal Fire, Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District and Folsom Prison Fire were dispatched to the scene.
Firefighters contained the fire in an hour and a half and continued mop-up work for another six hours. By the time it was extinguished, the fire had burned more than five acres.
One Folsom firefighter was injured and was transported to a hospital for treatment. He was treated and released, Battalion Chief Nick Lawler said.
“The cause is currently under investigation,” the Fire Department said.
