Elk Grove facade improvement program helps building owners give storefronts fresh new look

Elk Grove news

Elk Grove building owners can now apply for city cash to give their facades a facelift.

The city’s new facade improvement program provides up to $50,000 in matching grant funding or half of any eligible reimbursable costs, whichever is less, along with professional architecture and engineering services to successful grantees.

For more information on the program and eligibility, reach Elk Grove Economic Development Department via email at econdev@elkgrovecity.org or visit investelkgrove.org.

The program aims to encourage new investment in the city’s older commercial buildings, said Darrell Doan, Elk Grove Economic Development Director, in a statement announcing the new plan.

“Placemaking and business district vibrancy are key goals of the City Council, and this program will deliver on both,” Doan said.

A variety of improvements including paint, lighting, awnings and signage are covered under the program, which is available for both individual storefronts and full commercial buildings across Elk Grove.

The Elk Grove City Council approved the improvement program in late July tapping into funds from Measure E, the 1% sales tax hike passed by voters last November. The measure went into effect in April.
