A pedestrian was struck and killed by a freight train in midtown Sacramento on Monday afternoon, authorities said, temporarily closing roadways in the area to vehicle traffic.

Around 4:15 p.m., a BNSF train struck the pedestrian near 20th and Q streets, according to a tweet by the Sacramento Police Department.

A walker could be seen on the ground next to the stopped train, where a screen concealed the body of the victim as crime scene investigators took photos.
