Orangevale man, 27, killed in multi-vehicle crash on Highway 99 in Sacramento, CHP says

A 27-year-old man died after being ejected from his motorcycle during a multi-vehicle collision on Highway 99 late Thursday near Sacramento’s Oak Park neighborhood, the California Highway Patrol said.

Officers responded at 10:25 p.m. after receiving reports of multiple vehicles involved in a crash and stopped on the shoulder, the CHP South Sacramento office said in a news release.

When they arrived, they found the motorcyclist dead in the roadway, CHP said. The motorcyclist was identified by the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office as Alexander Verhoeven of Orangevale.

Investigating officers determined Verhoeven may have been thrown from his motorcycle when he tried to change lanes, colliding with the rear of an Acura. He was then struck by other vehicles in the roadway, CHP said.

The collision closed three lanes of lanes of northbound Highway 99, as well as the exit to 12th Avenue, for several hours.
