Firearms buyback event planned for Yolo County. Here’s how much money each gun gets

The Yolo County Sheriff’s Office will be holding an anonymous gun buyback event this month in Davis, the agency announced on social media.

The event will bebetween 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 26, at 600 A St. at the Yolo County Health and Human Services building. It’s the first time the agency is providing a buyback event, which has proven popular in Sacramento.

Ammunition will be accepted, too, and firearms given up must be fully functional, the Sheriff’s Office. When dropping off the firearms, no identification will be required.

Sacramento Police officers Peter Lopez, left, and Frank Ley log in firearms at a gun buyback event on Saturday, Oct. 22, 2022, at the Sacramento Police Department headquarters. The Yolo County Sheriff’s Office will be holding a similar event on Aug. 26 in Davis.

Eligible participants will receive a $50 gift card for each handgun and a $100 gift card for any long gun surrendered, the Sheriff’s Office said.

Deputies said, however, they reserve the right to limit the amount of payments individuals can receive regardless of the number of guns that are surrendered.
