Driver, 53, killed in head-on crash driving fast on wrong side of road in south Sacramento

Roadway fatality

A 53-year-old motorist was killed Thursday after witnesses say he crossed into oncoming traffic on a rural southeast Sacramento County road, colliding with a pickup truck while traveling at a high rate of speed.

Marcus Winkfield, a resident of Galt, was pronounced dead at the scene by firefighters following the crash on Twin Cities Road near Clay Station Road just after 5 a.m.; the Coroner’s Office identified Winkfield on Friday morning.

According to the California Highway Patrol’s South Sacramento office, witnesses to the crash said the man, behind the wheel of a 2002 Honda Civic, was driving fast in the eastbound lane when he crossed the double yellow line. His Civic collided with a 2016 Dodge pickup driven by a 35-year-old man.

The motorist in the truck complained of pain but refused medical treatment.

Twin Cities Road is signed as Highway 104 through the Clay area.
