Man drowns while crossing Northern California river. Deputies ask for help to identify him
The Yuba County Sheriff’s Office is asking for the public’s help to identify a man who drowned in the Yuba River near Marysville’s Beer Can Beach on Thursday.
Deputies responded to a call to help locate a man who went missing underwater while attempting to cross the river around 4:30 p.m., the Sheriff’s Office said in a news release.
The Linda Fire Department also responded to assist with a rescue raft. Firefighters found the man under 2 feet of water and immediately began life-saving measures, according to the news release. The man was later pronounced dead at the scene.
Deputies did not find any identification on the man or any other identifying information. Sheriff’s officials described the man as appearing to be “Hispanic, approximately 30 years old and possibly transient.”
