Woman struck, killed by car on Fruitridge Road in south Sacramento, police say

A woman was struck by a car and killed late Sunday in the Lawrence Park section of Sacramento, the Sacramento Police Department said.

Officers responded at 9:08 p.m. to reports of a car striking a pedestrian on the 5000 block of Fruitridge Road near Dewey Boulevard, police said in a news release. Officers found a woman in the roadway. Fire personnel performed CPR but she was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver remained at the site of the crash, police said.

Detectives from the agency’s major collisions unit arrived on the scene and canvassed the area for witnesses and evidence. The crash remains under investigation, police said.

The Sacramento County Coroner’s Office will release the identity of the victim after next of kin is notified.
