A new emergency alert system is in place in Sacramento County, and the Office of Emergency Services is advising residents to sign up soon.

According to a news release, the office will be deleting contact information from its previous system on Oct. 1 to maximize its use and prevent multiple notifications.

This means those who haven’t signed up to the new system that was implemented Jan. 1 will need to sign up soon to get emergency and community alerts.

How to enable alerts

The office is telling residents to sign up online by creating an account before Oct. 1.

There’s also a Smart911 app that can be downloaded to cellphones with the Android and iPhone operating system.

When making an account, residents will be asked to add an address. This way, the alert system can send relevant notifications and information.
