Woman calls 911 for ‘flying cheese’ on the road in Roseville. Watch out for ‘American cheddar’

Roseville news

At least one west Roseville driver was plagued by a cheesy situation on the roadway Saturday, according to police radio traffic.

At 10:10 a.m. dispatchers broadcast a “be on the lookout” advisory to officers that a woman had reported “flying cheese” hitting her windshield in the area of Woodcreek Oaks Boulevard and Baseline roads.

“One reporting party advised about five minutes ago ... piece of cheese hit her window from a passing black sedan, unknown plates,” a dispatcher says in an audio clip from Broadcastify.com that was shared on Reddit on Monday morning.

An officer responded to the advisory, asking for the color of the cheese.

“We’re going to go with American cheddar,” the dispatcher said.

Perhaps the dispatcher was referring to a single slice of processed cheese, which can be sticky when pulled from its packaging. The single cheese slice has garnered its own viral status on social media platforms such as TikTok. Since at least 2021, versions of the “cheese challenge” have produced clips of people throwing slices of cheese onto vehicles or, alternatively, unsuspecting toddlers.
