A Sacramento City Unified School District employee has been placed on leave after a video of him pushing a student surfaced online.

“The Sacramento City Unified School District is investigating an incident at Umoja International Academy in which a staff member is alleged to have made inappropriate contact with a student,” said Al Goldberg, a spokesman for the district. “The staff member was immediately placed on leave, which is standard procedure for an investigation of this nature.”

Umoja was formerly known as Kit Carson Academy before district officials renamed the midtown campus earlier this year.

KCRA reported that the video shows a male employee walking up to a group of students and pushing one of them to the ground.

“District student support staff have reached out to the student involved and their family to provide any assistance that is needed,” Goldberg said.

Officials said the staffer was not a teacher, but it was not clear what the employee’s role was on campus.
