Woman dies after rescue from large apartment fire in Citrus Heights. Cause under investigation
One woman is dead after firefighters rescued her from a large fire in a Citrus Heights apartment early Tuesday.
Firefighters from the Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District responded at 3:48 a.m. to a “well-established” fire in a two-story apartment in the 12800 block of Fair Oaks Boulevard.
Crews arrived and immediately performed an aggressive fire attack and search of the apartment. One victim was located and extricated, Metro Fire said in a social media post.
The woman was hospitalized, but later died from her injuries, said Capt. Parker Wilbourn, a spokesman for the district. Her identity has not been released by coroner’s officials.
All other occupants of the apartment were evacuated, crews said.
Photos of the fire show flames pouring from the first-floor windows.
Five fire engines and one medic unit responded to the scene, working to knock down the fire in about 90 minutes.
Metro Fire officials said the cause of the fire is under investigation.
