Two dead after vehicle crashes into water near Sacramento-Solano county line, CHP says
Two women were killed Thursday and three other people were hospitalized, including a baby and a toddler, after a vehicle carrying five people went off a Solano County rural roadway and into the water of the Sutter Slough, just west of the Sacramento County line.
The vehicle crash was first reported shortly before 4 p.m. in the area of Holland and Oxford roads, about a mile southwest of the Sacramento County town of Courtland, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The vehicle, for an unknown reason, went off the road down an embankment and hit a tree before it overturned into the water, said Officer Jason Tyhurst, a spokesman for the CHP’s Solano office.
He said all five people in the vehicle were female Stockton residents.
The driver and a front-seat passenger, both women in their 40s, were pronounced dead at the scene, Tyhurst said. Authorities found both of them in the overturned vehicle.
Three rear passengers in the vehicle were injured in the crash and hospitalized. Tyhurst said a 3-month-old girl was listed in critical but stable condition at a hospital. He said a woman in her 20s and a toddler a month shy of her 2nd birthday were both in stable condition.
