Sacramento is getting a new upscale steakhouse and bar — jeans and jerseys, encouraged
Downtown Sacramento is welcoming a new restaurant, offering an elevated dining experience.
Butcher and Barrel is set to open on Oct. 13, according to its website, at 723 K St. It is across from the Downtown Commons, facing Solomon’s Vinyl Diner and Kodaiko Ramen and Bar.
The restaurant is family-owned by husband-and-wife Kevin and Cindy McBride. Before rebranding as a steakhouse, the spot initially was going to be a sports lounge, Kevin McBride told The Bee.
“Our whole vision the entire time had been wanting to do more upscale food, fresh food, farm-to-fork food,” he said.
And while the restaurant is dishing up upscale plates, Kevin McBride said the brand is an “elevated casual dining experience.”
“We don’t want people to feel like they have to wear slacks and a button-up or a nice dress,” he said. “We want people to come in their jeans and a jersey and come have a steak and some whiskey or some wine. Or a girl’s night out with charcuterie boards and wine.”
Luis Cruz is at the helm in the kitchen as executive chef.
“At Butcher and Barrel, my mission is to bring guests closer to the essence of farm-to-fork dining, prioritizing sustainability and creating close relationships with local farms to ensure that the freshest and best ingredients are used in every dish,” Cruz, who’s been a chef for 17 years, said on the website.
There’s a lunch and dinner menu, featuring salads, pasta and steaks. Entrees include brazed pork shank with goat cheese and pumpkin risotto, pan-seared scallops and lobster with cognac cream. For lunch, entrees start at $24. Dinner starts at $27.
Steak options vary from skirt steak, New York, rib eye, dry-aged, filet mignon, sirloin and Tomahawk. Prices start at $35.
The restaurant will also serve whiskey, wine, craft cocktails and beer.

For its grand opening on Oct. 13, Butcher and Barrel is having a ribbon cutting ceremony at 3 p.m. and welcoming guests for dinner via reservations, according to its social media.
You can make a reservation online. There will be some walk-in availability.

After Oct. 13, the regular hours will be 11:30 a.m. to 11 p.m. everyday.
