Motorist killed after vehicle strikes tree on Norwood Ave. in North Sacramento, police said

Police tape at crime scene

A motorist was killed Friday night after his vehicle hit a tree in North Sacramento, according to the Sacramento Police Department.

Officers went to Norwood Avenue and Ford Road in the Strawberry Manor section of the city just after 12:15 a.m. and found the driver suffering from major injuries. He was pronounced dead at the scene, said Officer Anthony Gamble, a spokesman for the Police Department.

There were no other occupants in the vehicle when it left the straight roadway, according to police.

It’s unclear why the vehicle crashed, and police are investigating if drugs, alcohol or speed played a factor in the crash, Gamble said.

Similar crashes have happened in northern areas of the city this year. In June, three people were killed and 8 were hurt when their vehicle barreled into a tree along a winding portion of San Juan Road in Northgate. Days later, one person was killed and four were hurt when their vehicle slammed into a tree on Barandas Drive and Sweet Maple Way in the Willowcreek neighborhood of South Natomas.

Any witnesses to Friday’s crash are asked to call Sacramento police at 916-808-5471 or Sacramento Valley Crime Stoppers at 916-443-4357.
