Traffic alert: This street to close in West Sacramento as a part of roadway project
A section of Fifth Street in West Sacramento will close starting Thursday night, as crews work on the Riverfront Street Extension and Fifth Street Widening Project.
Fifth Street between Mill and 15th streets in the Bridge District will close from 7 p.m., Thursday until 5 a.m., Friday, according to a Facebook post from the West Sacramento page. There will be crews out rolling asphalt on the street for the project.
“This is one of the last steps of the Riverfront St Extension & 5th St Widening project followed by striping, signs, and traffic signal modifications,” according to the post. “Project is set to be completed by early November 2023.”
The extension and widening plan include making Mill and 15th streets wider, creating a two-way bike path and sidewalk, and installing water, sewer, lighting and some landscaping, according to the project website. The city will also update traffic signals at intersections Fifth and Bridge streets, and South River Road, Fifth and 15th streets to address pedestrian crossings and bikeways.
Construction began last summer and the total cost of the project is more than $12 million.
