Five-day rain streak coming to Sacramento Valley, forecast says. Will you need sandbags?
A five-day rainy streak is about to kick off in Northern California, according to the National Weather Service.
Rain is expected to start in the northern Sacramento Valley and the surrounding area Thursday evening, said Sara Purdue, a meteorologist with the service. However, those in Sacramento will likely begin to see some rainfall over the weekend and next week.
“There’s better chances and higher amounts expected in Sacramento area on Monday and Tuesday,” Purdue said.
What are the forecast rain totals in Sacramento?
The Sacramento area is predicted to get around a quarter of an inch of rain over the next five days, Purdue said.
“We’re not anticipating any major impacts at the moment,” Purdue said. “It’s still a little bit early in the forecast period for that so you know, there’s a chance to change but we’re mostly expecting minor impacts.”
Sacramento County will have sandbag locations for those in the unincorporated area ahead of the weekend rain, according to a news release. Locations include:
▪ Branch Center (3847 Branch Center Road, Rancho Cordova)
▪ Orangevale Community Center (6826 Hazel Ave.)
▪ Sacramento Metropolitan Fire Station 116 (7995 Elwyn Ave., Elverta)
Temperatures in Sacramento will remain in the mid to low 70s this week, according to the weather service five-day forecast.
Is snow on the forecast?
There’s a chance of snow for Monday and Tuesday in the Sierra, but “it wont be very much,” Purdue said.
Temperatures in the Tahoe area will range between low 50s and mid 60s throughout the week, according to the weather service five-day forecast.
