Sacramento freeway ramps to close this weekend for construction. Here’s where and when

Traffic Alert

Motorists should be on the lookout for delays and detours as weekend construction work on one of Sacramento’s busiest interchanges could prove a challenge to the capital region’s freeways, Caltrans officials said.

The freeway connectors between Interstates 5 and 80 in South Natomas will shut down Friday night, officials said in a District 3 news release. Crews will work on the approach slab, striping and concrete.

The ramps are scheduled to reopen early Monday morning.

What it means

The work schedule could change due to traffic incidents, weather and construction issues, officials said.

Nearby Natomas residents will likely hear loud noises this weekend including construction and beeping sounds.

Motorists should expect the following ramp closures along the I-5 and I-80 interchange:

CLOSURES

From 10 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday:

  • Southbound I-5 to eastbound and westbound I-80
  • Eastbound I-80 to northbound I-5

DETOURS

  • Eastbound I-80 to northbound I-5 (detour at Truxel Road)

  • Southbound I-5 to I-80 (detour to Garden Highway)
  • Follow the detour sign in place
The California Department of Transportation scheduled connector ramp closures in North Natomas between Friday, Nov. 10, 2023, and Monday, Nov. 13, 2023.

What you should do

Motorists should use another route to get around construction work and plan for delays.

The speed limit in a work zone is 55 mph at all times. The California Highway Patrol will issue citations to drivers who exceed the limit.
