Authorities on Tuesday morning briefly shut down Highway 99 in both directions near Elk Grove Boulevard after a man threatened to jump off an overpass while suffering a mental health crisis, according to police and the California Highway Patrol.

The Elk Grove Police Department shut down lanes just before 9:15 a.m. but reopened all lanes about an hour later. Traffic was directed for a time off Elk Grove Boulevard, according to the CHP’s incident log.

Police said in an update the man was detained following the ordeal but additional information was not immediately available.
