Thunderstorm shakes up Sacramento: ‘It sounded like a bomb went off’
A powerful winter storm hit the Sacramento area this weekend, bringing rain, lightning and thunder.
The thunderstorm startled several Sacramento residents early Monday morning, waking up people and even setting off car alarms.
“Did anybody hear what sounded to be like the loudest thunder in existence? We were woken up at around 1:40 am and we thought the world was ending,” Reddit user hi_im_chrissy posted early Monday morning.
“Did anyone else hear that?” another Reddit user, identified as Hanasmf, asked. “It sounded like a bomb went off.”
Posting on X, formerly known as Twitter, Sacramento resident spookyalyssaa described “getting woken up by the loudest and longest thunder rumble I’ve ever heard.”
A number of locals took to social media to express their shock and share video footage of the storm.
“Yo, as a lifelong Sacramento resident, this is absolutely the loudest thunder I’ve ever heard in my life,” Kevin Fippin wrote in an X post.
“Damn thunder outside is making it sound like we’re at war in Sacramento,” another Sacramento resident, YoSahop, posted on X.
Sacramento resident Jenny Davidson wrote on Facebook that the thunder “scared me to death.”
What’s in the forecast for Sacramento?
In total, Sacramento received about 0.6 inches of rain between Sunday and Monday, according to the National Weather Service.
Rain is forecast to last until Wednesday in the region and could possibly return Friday, the weather service said.
