Man and child critically injured in Christmas Day house fire in North Sacramento neighborhood
A man and child were injured on Christmas Day in a house fire in the South Hagginwood neighborhood of North Sacramento.
Sacramento Fire Department crews responded to the fire at 5:30 p.m. on the 1000 block of Acacia Avenue after receiving a report of smoke billowing from a home.
Fire crews arrived and found a small fire but heavy smoke coming from the back of the house. When they made their entry, they found an unresponsive man, in his 50s, in the kitchen with burns to his arms and hands.
They also found a young boy unresponsive in the shower.
Capt. Justin Sylvia, a spokesman for the Sacramento Fire Department, said the boy appeared to have gotten into the shower for safety. The age of the boy was not disclosed.
Paramedics transported the man and boy to UC Davis Medical Center in critical condition. Both victims became conscious as they arrived at the emergency department, Sylvia said.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
