Rain and near-freezing temperatures are in the forecast for Sacramento. Here’s when
The week got off to a frosty start in the Sacramento area.
Temperatures dipped into the “30s across much of the Central Valley and single digits to 20s in the mountains,” the National Weather Service said Monday morning in post on X, formerly known as Twitter.
The Sacramento International Airport got as cold as 35 degrees on Monday morning, according to the weather service.
Those chilly temperatures are expected to continue this week as isolated rain showers head to the capital city.
When will it rain in Sacramento?
Light rain is forecast to start Tuesday morning in the Sacramento area.
Less than a 10th of an inch is forecast to fall in the Sacramento area between Tuesday and Wednesday, said Katrina Hand, National Weather Service meteorologist.
Morning temperatures will be near to below freezing for most of this week, Hand said.
On Monday and Tuesday, low temperatures will hover between 39 and 38 degrees, according to the weather service’s five-day forecast.
On Wednesday, the low will dip to 32 degrees.
Thursday is forecast to be the coldest morning this week with low temperatures potentially getting down into the 20s.
Daily high temperatures throughout the week will be between 50 and 53 degrees, according to the weather service forecast.
There’s a possibility for another round of rain showers in the Sacramento area starting late Friday and going into Saturday, Hand said.
It’s uncertain how much rain the storm will drop during that storm, she said.
Will it snow in Tahoe?
On Wednesday, a winter storm is forecast to drop “heavy mountain snow” in the Tahoe area, the National Weather Service wrote in a Monday post on X, formerly known as Twitter.
“We’re looking at impactful weather,” Hand said, explaining that “the heaviest snowfall will be on Wednesday.”
“We’re looking at most of the snow falling above 4,000 feet, but we could still see some minor accumulations down to 2,000 to 3,000 feet as well,” she aid.
Minor snow accumulations in the upper foothills can be possible with Wednesday’s storm, according to the Weather Service.
