Rite Aid announces closure of Woodland distribution center. Here’s how many jobs it will cut
The national pharmacy chain Rite Aid announced the planned closure of a Yolo County distribution center, costing more than 200 jobs, after the business filed for bankruptcy and must restructure.
There will be 241 job losses at the Woodland location on East Beamer Street. Employees who stay through the end of their “transition period” will get severance packages, outplacement support and health insurance, Alicja Wojczyk, a spokeswoman with Rite Aid, wrote in a statement.
Operations will be transitioned to a distribution center in Lancaster, a “difficult but necessary business decision” that was made after a “comprehensive analysis” of Rite Aid’s distribution network, Wojczyk wrote. The Sacramento Business Journal first reported the closure.
The retail giant has been shuttering unprofitable Sacramento-area stores since 2022, according to The Sacramento Bee’s previous reporting.
There have been at least 11 Rite Aids that have closed in the capital region. As of December, there are 16 stores left in the Sacramento region, according to The Bee’s previous reporting.
Rite Aid is not going out of business but is filing for bankruptcy. It suffered roughly $2.9 billion in losses over the past six years, according to the bankruptcy filing.
