A new tapas bar and restaurant is opening in the Sacramento area — replacing a beloved Mexican restaurant.

Bodega Biondi will open on Friday at 7984 California Ave. in Fair Oaks, according to a social media post.

The family-run restaurant will offer a blend of Spanish, Italian and California small plates and entrees, along with wine and beer.

What is new Fair Oaks tapas restaurant?

Bodega Biondi has been “a vision in the making for many years,” according to the restaurant’s website.

Owner Franco Biondi was 17 when he immigrated to the United States from Lima, Peru with his family, the website said.

After spending years working at his family’s restaurants in the Bay Area and other eateries, and raising two sons with his wife, Katie, Biondi set out to create “a restaurant he could call his own,” the site said.

“The Village of Fair Oaks, with its close knit community and small town charm became the setting for their venture,” according to the website. “They aspired to create an experience ... reminiscent of a historic European tavern where good food is paired with even better wine, conversation, and community. Bodega Biondi was born. “

Bodega Biondi is taking over the space vacated by Wild Rooster Bistro, which closed in 2023 after serving brunch and dinner for six and a half years.

The restaurant’s owners announced the closure in a Facebook post on New Year’s Eve, The Sacramento Bee reported in January.

What’s on the Bodega Biondi menu?

Tapas on the menu at Bodega Biondi include meatballs, Italian beef sliders, gnocchi, Galician-style octopus and tortilla espanola, a Spanish-style omelet with potatoes, onion, romesco sauce and garlic aioli.

Those small-plate options start at $9.

The restaurant also has flatbreads and paninis, both starting at $12.

In addition, Bodega Biondi serves entrees including rigatoni alfredo, lasagna, pollo marsala, and Spanish-style steak. Prices start at $15.

You can pair your meal with wine or beer. Wine starts at $9 per glass and $6 for a bottle of beer.

When is the business open?

Bodega Biondi’s grand opening is on Friday.

On that day, the restaurant will be open for dinner only from 4 to 9 p.m., according to its social media post.

Bodega Biondi’s regular open hours are 11:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday, and 11:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
