‘Several waves of rain showers’ to cool Sacramento as spring moves in. When do they start?

Spring officially kicks off this week and it sure feels like it in Sacramento, as temperatures rise above normal for this time of year.

Enjoy the sunshine while it lasts because moody weather is about to make a comeback.

After a sunny Monday with high temperatures in the upper 70s, the spring equinox will usher in more warm temperatures before a bout of rain cools the capital city.

On Tuesday — the equinox — Sacramento will see a high of 76 degrees and an overnight low of 48, according to the National Weather Service’s seven-day forecast.

The sun will stick around throughout the week while temperatures slowly drop to the low 70s ahead a weekend full of rain. The high on Friday will be 65 degrees.

“We’ll see several waves of rain showers move through,” said Dakari Anderson, a meteorologist with the weather service.

Anderson said while measurable rainfall will be minimal — around three-quarters of an inch in Sacramento — the system will last through Monday.

When will rain begin in Sacramento?

Starting late Friday morning or early afternoon, there’s a slight chance of rain in the forecast.

The chance of showers lasts through Sunday, Anderson said, but dissipates throughout the weekend.

How warm is Sacramento usually this time of year?

Anderson said it’s usually about 67 degrees on March 18, putting the capital an anticipated 9 degrees above normal on Monday.

The record high for this day occurred in 2004, when the city hit 82 degrees.
