Is Mikuni opening a new Sacramento-area sushi restaurant? Here’s what we know so far

A popular chain of Sacramento-area sushi spots appears poised to replace a Japanese restaurant in El Dorado Hills.

Mikuni Japanese Restaurant & Sushi Bar is seeking to take over the liquor license and catering permit for Aji Japanese Bistro in the El Dorado Hills Town Center, according to the California Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control’s website.

Aji Japanese Bistro announced May 13 that it will be shutting its doors at 4361 Town Center Blvd., Suite 111, in El Dorado Hills due to “rising costs,” The Sacramento Bee previously reported.

The restaurant’s last day is set for May 31, according to the post.

Reached Friday by The Sacramento Bee, the Mikuni Restaurant Group said that it plans to release an official statement on Monday.

As of Friday afternoon, Mikuni was not advertising a new El Dorado Hills restaurant on its website.

What is Mikuni Japanese Restaurant & Sushi Bar?

Mikuni Japanese Restaurant & Sushi Bar was founded in 1987 in Fair Oaks, according to the restaurant’s website.

The chain has quickly expanded since then, with various locations throughout the area.

Mikuni prides itself in using “fresh, seasonal ingredients” in its Japanese dishes, the website said.

What’s on the menu?

The menu at Mikuni Japanese Restaurant & Sushi Resturant includes small bites succh as edamame, tempura green beans and gyoza.

Large plates range from chicken katsu and sesame chicken to beef curry.

The restaurant also offers a variety of sushi, nigiri and sashimi.
