Sacramento to see first 100-degree day: Here’s when we can expect ‘major heat risk’
Sacramento is expected to see its first 100-degree day of the year soon, according to the latest predictions from the National Weather Service.
The high temperature for Wednesday is forecast to reach 101 degrees.
“Our official forecast only goes out through Wednesday,” National Weather Service meteorologist Idamis Shoemaker said Thursday afternoon. “But there is some confidence that we could be seeing this beyond Wednesday.”
Although Shoemaker said that the hottest day could be Wednesday, she said the heat may linger later into the week, at least through Thursday.
“There’s still uncertainty in terms of how hot it will be and which days will be the hottest for right now,” Shoemaker said.
Residents can expect heat warnings for these days.
“Right now we’re forecasting widespread major heat risk for Wednesday and Thursday for at least the northern and central Sacramento Valley,” Shoemaker said. “For the southern Sacramento Valley, which includes Sacramento, it would be mostly moderate heat risk with some areas of major heat risk.”
Sacramento residents won’t be the only ones dealing with sweltering temperatures.
The Bay Area is forecast to have the “biggest heat event of the year” with temperatures peaking in the mid- to high 90s, The Mercury News reported on Thursday.

Heat risk announcement for Sacramento Valley
The weather service issued moderate heat risk announcement for the Sacramento Valley for Thursday and Friday.
“This level of heat affects most individuals sensitive to heat, especially those without effective cooling and/or adequate hydration,” the weather service said on X.
The agency advised people to stay hydrated and be in a cool place during the heat.
