Sacramento area’s last Red Lobster restaurant could close amid bankruptcy. What we know
The Sacramento area could lose its last Red Lobster restaurant still in operation as the company ramps up for more closures.
The Florida-based seafood restaurant chain filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in May, cutting the lights to more than 80 locations across the United States.
Those included a site in Arden Arcade.
Recent court filings revealed the chain’s plan to close several more location if leases cannot be renegotiated with landlords, as first reported by CNN.
The list includes the Citrus Heights location at 6231 Sunrise Blvd. in Citrus Heights.
As of Monday afternoon, Red Lobster representatives were not available to comment.
In a May 19 news release, the restaurant chain known for its shrimp specials and cheddar biscuits said the next steps include selling its business to lenders to stay afloat.
Other steps include closing locations and strengthening operations.
“This restructuring is the best path forward for Red Lobster,” Red Lobster CEO Jonathan Tibus wrote in the release. “It allows us to address several financial and operational challenges and emerge stronger and re-focused on our growth.”
As of Monday afternoon, the Citrus Heights site was open for dine-in and take-out.
Business hours are from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., seven days a week.
