The city of Isleton hosted its Crawdad Festival this Father’s Day weekend attracting thousands of visitors with Cajun-inspired food, live music, craft vendors, a carnival and a car show.
The festival was not affiliated with the crawdad festival held this weekend at Cal Expo in Sacramento.
Toby Tayeh of Sharkey’s Chicken and Fish of Vacaville kept the festival’s crawdad boil going while also serving other Louisiana-style recipes passed down from his grandmother, including alligator bites and crispy frog legs.
Mike Ellis of Stockton celebrated Father’s Day Sunday with his wife Cristina and sons Mario, 6, and Valentino, 4, who wore a red crawdad hat.
“I was told that they tasted like lobsters,” Ellis said after trying the crawdads. “Maybe bottom-fed lobsters?” he joked. “It was a little bit more unique, but you know, you gotta try everything!”
