Cookie dough, makeup and mouthwash: Here’s a roundup of recalls across California

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration recalled several products this month in California for mold and salmonella risks.

The recalls affect products ranging from cookie dough and sunscreen-based foundation to mouthwash and oral spray sold across the Golden State.

Here’s a list of food, cosmetics and body care products that have been removed from store shelves this month in California and why:

Cookie dough sold at Costco, Sam’s Club recalled due to salmonella

Nearly 30,000 pounds of cookie dough sold in California and 20 other states was affected by a recall from the Food and Drug Administration.

The national agency updated the recall, originally issued in May, to a higher Class II for possible traces of salmonella. This means the cookie dough could cause temporary health effects.

The potentially contaminated products from Rise Baking Company of Arizona include:

  • Costco Chocolate Chunk Frozen Cookie Dough
  • Member’s Mark Chocolate Chunk
  • Panera Chocolate Chipper Cookie
  • Rise Baking Jumbo Chocolate Chunk
  • Mini Chocolate Chip Cookie

The products were sold at Costco, Sam’s Club and Panera Bread locations in the following states:

  • California
  • Colorado
  • Florida
  • Georgia
  • Illinois
  • Indiana
  • Louisiana
  • Maryland
  • Massachusetts
  • Michigan
  • Minnesota
  • Missouri
  • Jew Jersey
  • New York
  • North Carolina
  • Ohio
  • Oklahoma
  • Oregon
  • Pennsylvania
  • Texas
  • Wisconsin

If you contract salmonella, symptoms can start as early as six hours after ingesting the bacteria, according to the FDA.

Common symptoms include diarrhea, fever, nausea and stomach pains.

Which makeup was recalled for mold?

Suntegrity Skincare of Las Vegas voluntarily recalled multiple shades of its sunscreen-based foundation due to mold.

In a June 12 news release, the Food and Drug Administration said the makeup company recalled nine lots of its Suntegrity Impeccable Skin Sunscreen Foundation in multiple shades after a “higher than acceptable microbiological mold count” was found in some tubes with Lot No. 115BU.

Aspergillus sydowii, a fungus typically found in marine environments, could cause an allergic reaction and skin and eye infections, according to the National Library of Medicine.

“Out of an abundance of caution while investigating the situation,” the following lots have also been recalled, according to the FDA:

  • Lot No. 107IV
  • Lot No. 107NU
  • Lot No. 109NU
  • Lot No. 117BU
  • Lot No. 113SA
  • Lot No. 114SA
  • Lot No. 106BR
  • Lot No. 101MO

“All original and recent test results received have come back clear,” the FDA added.

The sunscreen-based foundation, which is marketed as helping to prevent sunburns, is packaged in orange tubes. Lot numbers are listed on the back near the seal.

Which mouthwash, oral spray products have been recalled?

Two oral care products have been recalled nationwide after the Food and Drug Administration found traces of microbial contamination.

On June 5, HomeoCare Laboratories Inc. of Yonkers, New York, voluntarily recalled two batches of its Homeopathic Stella Life Oral Care Spray Unflavored and Advanced Formula Peppermint Oral Care Rinse.

No illnesses have been reported, the FDA said.

The spray and mouthwash are marketed as promoting oral health and preventing cavities and gum disease.

“We understand the concerns regarding potential risks, especially among patients with oral disease, undergoing dental surgical procedures or with compromised immune systems,” the FDA wrote in a June 11 news release.

“We take these findings seriously and are taking immediate action to address the situation,” the FDA added.

The following products shipped nationwide to customers and distributed to dental facilities have been recalled:
