Flies, food debris and duck thawing in a mop sink: See Sacramento County health inspections

Sacramento County health inspectors cited two local restaurants and a grocery store for code violations ranging from flies and food debris to out-of-order sinks and improperly thawing duck.

A yellow placard signals two or more major violations, according to the Sacramento County Food Inspection Guide. These are typically corrected or mitigated during the inspection.

A red placard signals “imminent danger to public health and safety” and suspends the health permit until violations are corrected. This could include, but is not limited to, major vermin contamination.

In contrast, a green placard means a restaurant passed the inspection.

The county conducts roughly 14,000 inspections a year, and 97% of all restaurants pass their inspections, spokesman Ken Casparis previously told The Sacramento Bee. About 1% of inspections result in a closure.

Health inspectors didn’t close any restaurants due to safety violations last week.

Here are the Sacramento County food facility inspections for June 13 through Wednesday, as of noon Thursday:

Sacramento County restaurants cited for health violations

The following Sacramento County restaurants had violations the week of June 13 through June 19, resulting in a conditional pass.

Only the dates of violations are listed. Most restaurants fully pass reinspection within 72 hours. The reports are linked. For updates on individual restaurants, you can search the EMD website here.

The Habit Burger Grill, 8124 Delta Shores Circle in Sacramento, had two violations on Monday.

Two out of the three hand-washing sinks at the fast-casual burger restaurant were out of order, according to Monday’s report.

Foods including sliced cheese, grilled mushrooms, burger patties and chicken breasts were outside of proper holding temperatures during the inspection.

The restaurant was reinspected on June 20 and received a green placard.

T Kee Restaurant, 1910 Fruitridge Road in Sacramento, had 10 violations on June 13.

Inspectors spotted a bagged duck thawing in a mop sink during the June 13 inspection, as well as meat, noodles, eggs, bean sprouts and other foods outside of proper holding temperatures.

Equipment at the hood area had “an accumulation of dust, grease and food debris,” the report said.

In a walk-in cooler, water was leaking from the condenser to the floor.

There were multiple carts of dirty dishes in the hallway leading to the restroom.

Inspectors detected smoke coming from the men’s restroom and asked the restaurant insure no smoking is happening in the facility.

The restaurant was reinspected on June 14 and received a green placard.

Naan-Boy Halal Market, 9632 Emerald Oak Drive in Elk Grove, had 12 violations on June 13.

Inspectors saw 10 to 15 flies at the grocery store.

There was “old meat debris” on a meat cutter and knives that were stored in a walk-in cooler, the report said, and there was “old food debris” on a bread preparation table and on the floor at a three-compartment sink.

Raw meat was being stored above vegetables in the walk-in, and samosas were outside of proper holding temperatures.

The restaurant was reinspected on June 14 and received a green placard.
