Evacuations were lifted and forward progress stopped Saturday evening on a vegetation fire that chewed through at least 15 acres in the foothills of northern El Dorado County.

The Creek Fire started about 3:30 p.m. in the 2700 block of Coon Creek Road in Greenwood, 7 miles east of Auburn and 4 miles west of Georgetown, Cal Fire’s Amador-El Dorado unit said in social media posts. The blaze is moving at a moderate rate of speed and requiring “significant ground and air resources,” according to firefighters.

Cal Fire spokeswoman Wendy Oaks said the fire had grown to 15.5 acres and was 10% contained. Oaks said the fire began as a residential structure fire before moving into vegetation.

“We’re making good progress, but structures are threatened and evacuations remain in place,” Oaks said.

Forward progress was stopped just before 6 p.m., Cal Fire said in an update.

Evacuation orders were lifted before 8 p.m. the El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office.
