Two of three people who drowned in Nevada County during July 4th week identified by coroner

Two of the three people who drowned during the Fourth of July holiday week have been identified by the Nevada County Coroner’s office.

The first incident happened Thursday afternoon when rescuers from the Nevada County Consolidated Fire Department responded to a missing swimmer call about 1:30 p.m. on the Yuba River near Highway 49 at Hoyts Crossing. Enrique Nieto-Hernandez 26, of Yuba City reportedly entered the water and did not resurface. Rescuers were able to locate the man but he was unresponsive to CPR and died.

The second incident came around 3 p.m. on the Yuba River near Bridgeport. Nevada County Consolidated firefighters joined with the Penn Valley Fire Protection District to respond to a water rescue. Firefighters did not offer details about rescue or where the man’s body was found.

The victim was identified Monday as Yonatan Josue Munoz, 24, a Nicaraguan national living in San Francisco.

The following day, the body of Juan Carlos Rangel-Avila, 29, of Reno, Nevada, was located after he went missing while swimming in Scotts Flat Lake around 4:30 p.m. Rescuers used divers and drones on the reservoir the Tahoe National Forest.

Rangel-Avila was located and brought to shore but was pronounced dead.
