I-5 ramp closure in Sacramento area could last a week. Here’s how to avoid traffic
Part of Interstate 5 will be closed in the Sacramento area for a week as construction crews work on the pavement, according to Caltrans.
A ramp connecting Arena Boulevard to I-5 in North Natomas closed to traffic Thursday night and will remain off-limits to motorists until 8 p.m. on Thursday, July 25.
Crews are working to realign, widen and pave the roadway, Caltrans said in a news release.
“No two consecutive ramps will be closed concurrently,” the department said. “The extended closure is necessary for worker and motorists’ safety.”
Where is Interstate 5 construction?
The pavement project will affect the eastbound Arena Boulevard slip on-ramp to southbound I-5 in North Natomas.
What detours can I take to avoid roadwork on I-5?
To avoid construction, drivers should continue eastbound to East Commerce Way and then make a U-turn to use the on-ramp at westbound Arena Boulevard to southbound I-5, Caltrans said.
Motorists can also use the Del Paso Road on-ramp to get onto southbound I-5.
You can expect delays and additional travel time, Caltrans warned.
What else can I expect?
There may be “loud, intermittent sounds” in the area caused by “heavy construction equipment, including vehicle back-up warning alarms,” Caltrans said.
