Firefighters stopped the spread of a second blaze that broke out Wednesday in El Dorado County, near a middle school and a ranch, that had prompted evacuation orders, authorities said.

Multiple structures were threatened by what authorities called the Silver Fire, a 35-acre blaze that ignited near Green Springs Ranch, at Green Valley Road and Silver Leaf Drive, according to Cal Fire. The area was less than a mile from Pleasant Grove Middle School.

Crews performed extensive mop up, and 35% of the fire had been contained by 5:45 p.m., Cal Fire said.

Residents were ordered to evacuate areas north of Green Valley Road, east of Dear Valley Road and west of Starbuck Road. The area surrounding that zone, which is northwest of Cameron Park and west of Rescue, was put under an evacuation warning, according to the county’s evacuation map.

The area mandated to be evacuated was no longer under those orders, according to the El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office.

Firefighters also battled the Crozier Fire near Placerville that burned 245 acres by Wednesday afternoon, Cal Fire said. The cause for both blazes was under investigation.
