A Citrus Heights woman died earlier this month of heatstroke, Sacramento County officials said Tuesday, marking the county’s third confirmed heat-related death this year.

The Sacramento County Coroner’s Office identified the woman as 53-year-old Stephanie Baker, who died Aug. 4 at Mercy San Juan Medical Center in Carmichael, according to a county news release.

The Coroner’s Office did not conduct an examination of Baker, the news release said, because she was hospitalized at the time of her death. Baker was admitted to the hospital Aug. 3, county spokeswoman Kim Nava said. The county said Baker was not unhoused.

The Sacramento region broke records during an extended heat wave last month that killed at least two county residents. The city then reached triple-digit temperatures six of the first seven days of August, hitting 105 degrees Aug. 3, National Weather Service records show.

Albert G. Edadiz, a 77-year-old Sacramento resident, died of heatstroke July 12 at UC Davis Medical Center after being hospitalized for heat-related symptoms July 3, county officials said last month. Sacramento hit 108 degrees July 3, according to the weather service.

Kevin Gerhardt, 58, died of multiorgan failure due to heatstroke July 7, at his trailer in a North Sacramento trailer park. A friend said he could not afford to fix the trailer’s air conditioning.
