Hot weather again today

Today is expected to be the hottest day of the week with 106 degrees forecast for Sacramento. If the mercury reaches 106, that would tie the record set in 1996. The hot weather is due to the presence of a high pressure system.

Workshop, talk focus on ocean health

The state Ocean Protection Council and Ocean Science Trust will host a workshop exploring ocean acidification and hypoxia – or low oxygen. California Secretary of Natural Resources John Laird will appear, followed by a panel discussion by researchers and advocates on how to improve ocean health. The workshop runs from 10 to 11:30 a.m. in the Klamath Training Room at the CalEPA building, 1001 I St., Sacramento. The Ocean Protection Council also will hold a 1 p.m. meeting at the National Resources Agency Auditorium, 1416 Ninth St., Sacramento.

Delta plan meeting set in Walnut Grove

The California Department of Water Resources and Federal Bureau of Reclamation will hold an open house-style meeting in Walnut Grove to answer questions and take comments on the revised blueprint for the state’s Delta plan, including the proposed water tunnels. The meeting takes place from 3 to 7 p.m at the Jean Harvie Senior and Community Center, 14273 River Rd., Walnut Grove.

Second annual Senior Pride fair set

The Wisdom Project = LGBT Elders is hosting the second annual Senior Pride Information Fair at the E.M. Hart Senior Center in Sacramento. The event features more than 25 service and care providers, as well as community leaders, refreshments and an opportunity to ask questions. The event takes place from 2 to 5 p.m., 915 27th St., Sacramento.

Softball tourney for girls through Sunday

The Sacramento Amateur Softball Association is hosting the 2015 ASA/USA 12u National Championship, a softball tournament for girls ages 11 and 12. Games are being played all week in Roseville and Lincoln, with the championship scheduled for Sunday at Maidu Regional Park.
