A TV news personality who has graced capital region screens for nearly a decade announced he’s leaving the post next week.

Ty Steele, who anchors KCRA 3’s 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. newscasts, as well as the 10 p.m. slot, said his last day will be Sept. 19. “A new opportunity in news” prompted Steele to take a job out of California, he said.

Steele did not say where he will be headed next.

“I am shaking a little bit right now,” Steele said on Thursday while announcing his departure on air. “It’s not fun to share this news.”

Steele, calling it a really tough decision to make, said KCRA is like home to him. But he took the opportunity due in part because it was a good a decision for his family.

The anchor first arrived in Sacramento to anchor Fox 40’s evening shows in July 2015, according to his LinkedIn profile. He joined KCRA 3 in September 2018.

“All the viewers at home, thank you for trusting me to tell your stories and to bring you the news of the day,” he said. “It’s truly been an honor and pleasure.”
