The taps have nearly run dry at Shorebirds Brewing Co., Sacramento County’s only brewery dedicated to producing alcoholic kombucha.

The bar in Rancho Cordova’s Barrel District is effectively closed, owners Randall Echevarria and Monte Hudock announced on social media Thursday.

Shorebirds will go dark until Oct. 19, when it’ll host a goodbye blowout. Six-packs, growler fills and discounted pints will be available for purchase, and the dog-friendly brewery will have Bark And Brews pooches on site as well as an artist painting pet portraits and at least 10 other small businesses.

Shorebirds opened in May 2022 in an industrial park at 11327 Trade Center Drive, Suite 355. Its Fresh Squeeze and Guru Magic kombuchas won gold and bronze medals, respectively, at the California State Fair this year, and its Blueberry Mojito was named the top hard kombucha at the 2024 Brewers Cup of California.

“As most of you know, breweries, restaurants, and small businesses throughout the region are struggling to survive,” Shorebirds’ social media post read. “If you can, please support your local businesses — celebrate your birthday there, gather your friends for trivia, karaoke, and comedy nights, or simply like, share and comment on their posts. Every little action you take helps keep the doors open.”

Shorebirds’ kombucha may still be available at some local breweries in the future, the post said. More information may be shared on Shorebirds’ Instagram and Facebook pages.
