At least five people, including two children, were injured Sunday afternoon when multiple cars, including a FedEx delivery truck, crashed on Lake Natoma Crossing bridge in Folsom.

Emergency responders were called to the crash site on Folsom Boulevard at 12:09 p.m., the Folsom Police Department said.

A FedEx truck was driving southbound across the span — over Lake Natoma between Greenback Lane and Leidesdorff Street — and crossed into oncoming traffic, colliding head-on with one vehicle, according to radio dispatches reviewed by The Sacramento Bee. Three others were struck in the crash, according to the Folsom Police Department.

Authorities said five people, including a 7-year-old boy and a 5-year-old girl, were taken to hospitals to be checked out for injuries. Folsom fire officials described the FedEx driver as a 32-year-old man with severe shoulder pain; dispatch audio indicated two other motorists in their 40s were also injured.

A Folsom police spokesman said all were expected to survive.

A GMC truck pulling a trailer, a Toyota Rav4 and a Nissan Rogue were among the vehicles involved. A description of the fourth vehicle was not given by Folsom police, who said the cause of the crash is under investigation.
