Two Roseville student-athletes were chosen to attend a respected rugby camp, thanks to a donation from the Roseville Firefighters Local 1592.

Jared Woosley and Jack Hempel – Woodcreek High School students and Eagle Scouts – were recipients of the trip to Cal Berkeley’s Youth Rugby Camp. The pair received full tuition, room and board, and new athletic equipment.

The camp, which concludes Thursday, provides teens with a chance to see how to train at a championship-caliber rugby level.

Woosley is a member of the National Honor Society and a member of the high school debate team. Hempel not only played rugby, but he also played high school and club water polo in the off-season.

The nonprofit, Sacramento-based Sport Camp Foundation, which sent Woosley and Hempel to the camp, has sent about 20 other high school athletes to camps nationwide.
