Five skiers suffered injuries after an incident was reported Monday on a chairlift at Heavenly Mountain Resort south of Lake Tahoe along the California-Nevada border.

Heavenly said the incident happened on its Comet Express chairlift, though officials did not elaborate. The chairlift was put on hold about 10:10 a.m., according to reports from skiers and the resort on social media.

“The safety of our guests is our top priority and the resort is investigating the incident,” said Cole Zimmerman, a spokesperson for the resort.

He declined to offer further comment on the nature of the incident.

The Tahoe Douglas Fire Protection District said online that five patients were taken to Renown Regional Medical Center in Reno. Their condition was not immediately available.

According to radio dispatches reviewed by The Sacramento Bee, some resort guests fell about 30 feet from the lift.

The ski resort contains 97 trails across 5,000 acres, according to its website.
