A Bay Area-based pizza chain is opening its first restaurant in the Sacramento region.

Tandoori Pizza is expected to open at 8234 Laguna Blvd., Suite 130, in Elk Grove in a couple of months.

The new restaurant is co-owned by UC Davis graduate Brandon Singh, who is partnering with his friend Amrit Singh to open the Elk Grove spot.

Brandon Singh grew up eating Tandoori Pizza, he told The Sacramento Bee.

“We’d always stop by there to eat the pizza and the wings, and we loved it,” said Singh, who’s lived in Elk Grove since 2007 “Eventually (we) got the opportunity to open one in Elk Grove. … I’m really glad to be able to open a location with my friend and be in my hometown.”

Here’s what diners can expect from Tandoori Pizza:

What is Tandoori Pizza?

According to its website, Tandoori Pizza blends the “vibrant flavors of India with the timeless essence of Italian cuisine” for a “fusion experience like no other.”

“Every bite is a celebration of the finest and freshest ingredients,” the company said. “Just one bite, and you’ll be hooked!”

Tandoori Pizza founder and owner Tejinder Singh started the business more than a decade ago after earning his bachelor’s degree from UC Davis, the website said.

Since then, Singh said in an online biography, “We’ve been perfecting the art of pizza-making.”

“Our dough, lovingly hand-kneaded, is crafted using time-honored traditions and the simplest, purest ingredients,” he said. “We believe in serving food that not only tastes amazing but is also clean and wholesome.”

Tandoori Pizza has a total of 17 locations in California, Pennsylvania and New York, including restaurants in Clovis, Concord, Rancho Cucamonga and San Jose.

Where is new Sacramento-area restaurant?

Tandoori Pizza’s new Elk Grove location will be in the Laguna Gateway shopping plaza adjacent to Highway 99 at the intersection of Laguna and West Stockton boulevards in Elk Grove.

The restaurant will occupy the space next to Leatherby’s Ice Cream Parlor that was formerly home to Nothing Bundt Cakes, commercial real estate broker Nickolas Saldivar of NAI Northgate confirmed.

Tandoori Pizza is in “the process of building out their space,” Kelly Rule, senior vice president of leasing at Pappas Investments, told The Sacramento Bee.

Brandon Singh said he loves the location because of how close it is to everything in Elk Grove.

“We really liked that we were close to (Highway) 99 — literally right off of the exit,” Singh said, noting the location’s proximity to the Elk Grove Police Department, Wilton Rancheria and local hotels.

Singh also appreciates that the Elk Grove location is in a central area of the city.

“We didn’t want to be too much on the north side or the south side,” Singh said. “We want everyone in Elk Grove to be able to quickly drive up to the location ... and pick up a pizza or wings or pasta.”

What’s on menu at Elk Grove pizzeria?

Tandoori Pizza’s menu has 27 different pizzas to choose from, including classics such as pepperoni and barbecue chicken.

Specialty pizzas include masala pesto chicken, lamb kabob and tandoori barbecue pizza.

Prices for whole pizzas, which feed three to four people, start at about $22.

The restaurant also serves up a variety of side dishes, including chicken wings, mozzarella sticks and jalapenos poppers, as well as pastas and salads.

Singh said that his favorite dishes to eat include tandoori chicken and curry chicken pizza.

“Our No. 1 goal is customer service and food quality,” he said.

When will new Northern California location open?

Singh said Tandoori Pizza is expected to open in Elk Grove in March.
