Northbound I-5 reopens after tractor-trailer wreck in southern Sacramento County

Roadway Hazard: An illustrative photo of a car crushed by two big rigs

Northbound Interstate 5 at Lambert Road in southern Sacramento County reopened Tuesday morning, hours after a big rig overturned, said the California Highway Patrol’s South Sacramento office.

Traffic was diverted onto Twin Cities Road for several hours, said Caltrans officials before reopening the roadway just after 9:30 a.m.

The first calls came into California Highway Patrol just after 3 a.m. A tractor-trailer carrying a shipment of hair gel overturned, tumbling onto its passenger side and blocking lanes of I-5, according to CHP traffic logs.

By 3:20 a.m., the Highway Patrol announced a SIG alert and patrol officers had begun to divert traffic away from the wrecked semi-trailer.
