Skier, 62, dies after colliding with a tree at Palisades Tahoe ski resort

A man died earlier this week in a skiing accident at Palisades Tahoe, a spokesperson from the mountain resort confirmed.

He was identified as John Thomas Hughes, 62, according to the Placer County Sheriff’s Office. Hughes collided with a tree around 11:30 a.m. Monday in the Scott area on the Alpine Meadows side of the resort, Palisades Tahoe spokesperson Patrick Lacey said in an email. Patrollers responded with medical aid before the skier was pronounced dead at the scene.

The incident happened near the Scott chairlift, which takes patrons to the Scott Peak with an elevation of 8,289 feet.

The incident happened just over a year after a pair of avalanches hit the ski resort, with the first killing a 66-year-old man and burying others beneath snow.
