Motorist dead in I-5 collision with jackknifed big rig near Walnut Grove

Roadway fatality

A motorist died in a collision early Thursday between a tractor-trailer and a sedan on Interstate 5 near Walnut Grove, said California Highway Patrol officials.

The tractor-trailer jackknifed on the interstate south of Twin Cities Road just before 5 a.m. ending up on top of the sedan and trapping the car underneath, according to Highway Patrol dispatchers.

The driver of the sedan was killed. The tractor-trailer’s driver escaped injury.

It was not known if weather conditions factored in the crash. Bands of rain moved through the Central Valley and the Sacramento region in the early morning hours.

The wreckage briefly blocked southbound I-5 near Twin Cities Road but crews were able to clear one of the lanes to traffic.
