An El Dorado County fire captain is in stable condition after he was burned while fighting a house fire Thursday night.

The El Dorado County Fire Protection District said Sunday morning that the fire captain had serious injuries and is receiving care at UC Davis Firefighters Burn Institute Regional Burn Center.

The fire was reported after 9 p.m. at a home on Lonesome Dove Court in Shingle Springs. It engulfed the captain in flames after conditions changed inside the home, according to the district.

Another firefighter was also injured but was released from a hospital that evening.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
