Are you being impacted by Trump and DOGE federal cuts in Sacramento? We want to hear from you
Since President Donald Trump took office in January, the administration — through the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) led by Elon Musk — has laid off or fired thousands of federal workers and canceled contracts or grants impacting groups across the country.
The Trump administration has enforced a hiring freeze, targeted federal offices in California for closure and terminated many of the 147,000 federal employees across the state, ranging from U.S. Department of Agriculture researchers to National Park Service rangers.
Journalists at The Sacramento Bee want to hear about how federal downsizing has affected you — especially if you are in the capital region.
If you work for a government agency, a nonprofit or another organization that’s been impacted by the cuts, please get in touch with our reporters so we can help inform the public.
We’ve been working hard to learn and share how the Trump administration has been changing the lives of Californians. Among other topics, we’ve explored how:
- Tariffs could impact California industries and could raise prices on groceries and other goods
- Trump’s executive orders expanded immigration enforcement
- Federal health agencies paused online updates
- Schools were pressured to end diversity, equity and inclusion programs
Your stories will help us have a clearer, more personal picture of the Trump administration’s actions are affecting local residents.
We understand this outreach can come with fear of retaliation, so we’re pledging the following:
- What you share with us will be kept confidential, and it will not be published unless you give us explicit permission.
- We will not share your name or details without your consent.
- You’re welcome to request to share information confidentially, and we will protect your identity.
